Dr. Asiya Sibtain

FCPS – Consultant Anesthesiologist, Kaul Associates, Lahore.

Asiya has been a part of Kaul and Associates family for over 25 years, serving this department in different capacities throughout her career. After training under direct supervision of Dr Kaul, she earned her Followship (FCPS) Anaesthesiology from CPSP in 2003.
She is currently serving as Consultant Anaesthesiologist and supervisor of FCPS training at Hameed Latif Hospital. Her clinical interests include regional anaesthesia in obstetrics, complicated obstetrics, bariatric surgery and pain management. She believes in Dr Kaul’s philosophy of breaking with the established way of doing things and leads the initiatives to align our practice with the global standards. She advocates the value of evidence-based interventions on early as well as remote patient outcomes.
She is an ardent advocate of the anaesthesiologist’s role as a perioperative physician and is willing to go beyond the call of duty to play her role in preoperative optimisation of the patient, with the aim of minimising unnecessary consultations and delays, better resources utilisation and improved patient outcomes. She strives to extend the anaesthetic care into postoperative period beyond discharge from post anaesthesia care unit (PACU) and hospital. She has studied patients’ recollection of experience and their satisfaction with Caesarean Section performed under spinal anaesthesia.
A strong believer in systems approach to patient safety, she leads the initiative of critical incident monitoring and using the data to improve the systems of patient care. She organises regular monthly audits meetings of the department, as a tool to improve the systems of patient care. As supervisor, paper setter and examiner for the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan she continues to contribute to postgraduate education in anaesthesia.
Asiya is convinced that the future of Kaul Associates lies in high quality patient care and strength of our training program. She holds all the residents in high esteem and is always willing to support them in their quest for excellence
